How to Make the King Cake Syrup
3 strips orange peel
4 cinnamon sticks
1 vanilla bean, split
1 lb pecans
Add all to pot and simmer for five minutes. Let steep for 30 minutes. Strain. Store any remaining syrup in a mason jar (or container with lid) for later use.
6oz. black coffee
1/2 oz. pumpkin spice
1 dash of chocolate bitters
1 dash of chicory bitters
Add creamer if desired
Add ice to a collins glass (like we did) or whatever you have around.
Pour ingredients over ice.
Stir and enjoy!
How did this one take us so long?! More than one of our customers took one look at the 504Gold and said "you've got to make a cocktail for the Saints!". There's no better time than a playoff game during the 2020-2021 season. The kick from the coffee and bitters make this the perfect addition to your cocktail menu after an afternoon of tailgating with beers from your own front yard (or however you're celebrating), and the pumpkin spice adds a layer of depth perfect for the crisp feeling of football season. We had our own showdown between this cocktail and a fruity, funky, red-colored "Brady Basher" in our tasting room. Naturally, the Black and Gold won.
