Spring has FINALLY returned to New Orleans, and with it, the blooms on our back patio!
If you didn’t know, many of the syrups in our tasting room cocktails are made with ingredients grown on-site. We keep multiple varieties of peppers and herbs on our patio, and harvest regularly to make seasonal cocktails (Like our Pomegranate Habanero Daquiris). Growing your own food may seem like an impossible task, but growing cocktail ingredients and garnishes is actually relatively easy, even in a container garden. Read on to find out more about our favorite easy-to-grow cocktail ingredients to pair with your next bottle of 504Rum!

THE RECIPE 2oz. 504Silver 1oz. Clover honey simple syrup 1oz. lemon juice Shake ingredients with ice, strain into rocks glass. Serves 1. THE STORY Honey is really the low-key star of this cocktail. Sort of like that guy we see in the all movies who always plays a certain type of character - he's never the lead but he has a bunch of lines and really adds something important to the whole vibe of the movie - what's that guy's name?....Anyway.... You can use any sort of honey you prefer for the Lucky Clover. Honey nerds will probably recognize clover honey as the most commonly used variety found easily in grocery stores everywhere. At home, we have a big collection of locally-harvested honey from farmers' markets around the state that we pull from all the time to play around with new recipes. We can't use all of these in the tasting room due to health department regulations, but if you're shaking it up at home, this cocktail is a great opportunity to bust out that Northshore honey in your cabinet. Happy St. Patrick's Day, friends!
THE RECIPE 2oz. 504Gold 1oz. Ginger simple syrup 1oz. lime juice 5 dashes smoked chili bitters Shake ingredients with ice, strain into rocks glass. Serves 1. Add all to pot and simmer for five minutes. Let steep for 30 minutes. Strain. Store any remaining syrup in a lidded container for later use. THE STORY
Meagen & Mark are away, so the bartenders get to play! Our lovely tasting room tender April was tasked with concocting thematically appropriate St. Patrick's Day specials for our partnership with Shamrock Our Block & Paved Paradise, and she DELIVERED! The spicy chili combined with the rich ginger syrup give this cocktail a kick appropriate for the occasion. Aptly named the Leapin' Leprechaun, this cocktail will make you jump right out of your seat - and perhaps send you on your way to finding some gold at the end of the rainbow. THE RECIPE 2oz. 504Gold 1oz. lemon juice 1oz. raw sugar simple syrup lemon sparkling water Mix in a glass of your choice (cause we're not fancy here) and top with sparkling water of the lemon variety. We prefer La Croix. Garnish with mint for a welcome touch of freshness on a hot day. THE STORY Some of our most popular cocktails by a landslide are the simplest things we make, and this one is sure to be no exception. This take on a Tom Collins (usually made with gin) is a newcomer, but it's everything that's good and easy about spring. It's quick to make, lovely to look at, and has just that little touch of something special to elevate your weekday, post-work, whip-something-up-for dinner kind of evening. If you love our Sister Suffragette (which pops its head up to remind us to vote), you'll love this.
